“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan

One of the most iconic and timeless entities in our industry, even if you don’t watch wrestling, chances are you know the name “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, the 2×4, the American flag, and the trademark calls of “USA!” and “Hoooooooo!”. The Glens Falls, NY native almost chose a different career path, briefly signed to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons before knee troubles led to him pursuing pro wrestling after a chance encounter with the legendary Fritz Von Erich. Duggan traveled up and down the regional territories of the 1980s, bit it was when he arrived in Bill Watts’ Mid-South territory that everything began to click. After winning the North American & Tag Team Titles, it was off to the then-WWF in 1987, where Duggan made history only months later, winning the very first Royal Rumble Match during a live USA Network special in early-1988 before embarking on a memorable rivalry with Andre the Giant. Duggan would spend the next seven years solidifying himself as one of the most enduring and beloved personalities in all of professional wrestling.

In 1994, Duggan moved on to WCW, where he immediately won the United States Title, pinning Steve Austin in a matter of seconds. Duggan was also the final ever WCW Television Champion. However, it was during his WCW stint, Duggan fought his greatest battle… kidney cancer. Thankfully, Hacksaw was able to win his battle with cancer, much as he has most of his ring wars, and despite a career that has spanned over 35 years, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to still see Hacksaw compete today. We are honored to have “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan as part of the GFW organization in an ambassador role, speaking with media outlets, conducting meet & greets with fans at GFW live events, and giving back to the business he still loves so much, by spreading the word of the next generation on the rise. From all of us here at Global Force Wrestling, we say to Hacksaw, welcome to GFW, TOUGH GUY!
